DENVER- With the Mountain West Championships looming on the horizon, the opening day of competition at the Denver First Chance Invitational allowed Air Force the opportunity to showcase some of its younger swimmers on the roster.
The meet began with the 200 Medley Relay, as the team of Brynn Bond, Ella Rudik, Darien Tompkins, and Catherine Dean posted a time of 1:47.94 to finish third.
Rudik was allowed a quick turnaround, immediately jumping back into the pool for the 400 IM. The sophomore eventually finished second in the swim, clocking in at 4:34.81. Kat Putchinski also took part in the 400 IM, as the freshman ended the race with a 4:49.77.
The 1650 Freestyle offered Natalie Gembicki the chance to show off her long distance skills, and the freshman delivered. Gembicki's 17:55.49 was the top swim in the race, while Zoe Bresnahan (18:12.27) also participated in the event.
Bond would go on to swim in the 200 Freestyle as well, posting a season-best time of 1:52.29, placing second. The C4C also placed fourth in the 100 Backstroke as the result of her 58.88. The 200 Freestyle also saw Raquelle Roesch (1:52.58) claim third while Eliana White (1:52.94) finished fourth, as the pair also provided season-best times in the event.
White secured another season-high time of 23.61 in the 50 Freestyle, where the freshman finished third among the 20 swimmers.
Sophia Pedersoli raced to a narrow second-place standing in the 100 Backstroke, notching a season-best time of 58.70. Tompkins managed season-best showings in the 200 Butterfly (2:12.49) as well as the 50 Freestyle (24.75). Kaitlyn Surratt's 24.95 marked her own season-best in the 50 Freestyle, too.
Air Force will close the regular season tomorrow in the final day of competition at the Denver First Chance Invitational, with the event set to begin at 10:00 am MT.
