
Zavel and Hoopes Win MPSF Weekly Awards

USAF ACADEMY -- Air Force's Oliver Zavel and Patrick Hoopes have been tabbed Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast and Specialist of the Week, respectively. The honors mark the first for a Falcon this season.
Zavel had a stellar performance at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships team event, claiming first place in the floor exercise (14.150) and first on the still rings (13.350). His floor score was a personal season best mark. Zavel also reached the podium on the P-bar, placing second with a 13.800. He continued his exemplary performance in the individual events, claiming the floor exercise title with 14.150 to tie his season best score. He earned his second All-America honor on the vault where he finished fifth with 14.300.
Hoopes rose to the top at the USAG Collegiate Nationals, winning the top spot in both the team event and individual finals. The highlight of the championship was Hoopes breaking his own Academy record, scoring a 15.400 to claim first-place. In the individual event, Hoopes continued his dominance, winning the pommel title with an impressive 14.950 to earn USAG All-American honors.
Zavel and Hoopes' efforts helped the Falcons to a season-best 401.650. The Falcons return to action at the MPSF Championships, April 6, in Norman, Oklahoma.
