Falcons fall in extras against Wolf Pack

RENO- A back and forth ballgame saw host Nevada hit a walk-off home run in the 12th inning, as Air Force was on the wrong end of the 5-4 score.
Chase Spencer hit his first home run of the year in the 3rd, a two-run home run to give the Falcons an initial 2-0 lead. He finished 1-6.
Going 2-5, Walker Zapp's two-run double in the 11th saw the Falcons create a 4-2 lead in the 11th. Jake Greiving and Jay Thomason also had two hits.
In the nine-hole, Ben Niednagel was 1-4 with a double, all nine starters for Air Force managed at least one hit.
Seungmin Shim was terrific yet again, going 7.2 innings while surrendering just one earned run to go with seven hits, three strikeouts, and two walks. Shim allowed two runs in the 4th, and nothing else. Thursday marks the fourth start this season that Shim has pitched 7.0+ innings.
Entering in the 8th, Doyle Gehring picked up the final out of the inning before posting zeroes in the 9th and 10th.
In the 11th with a 4-2 lead, Gehring opened the frame with a throwing error of his own, placing a runner at second with no outs. The senior right-hander eventually saw three singles lead to the tying run crossing the plate, as Sam Hentges entered the game with the winning run at third and one out.
Hentges would hit the first batter he faced to load the bases, but two infield pop-ups sent the ballgame into the 12th.
Following a scoreless top of the 12th, Hentges would give up a walk-off home run to the first batter in the bottom half of the inning to end the ballgame.
The loss is the Falcons fourth-consecutive defeat, as Air Force moves to 6-4 in Mountain West play.
The second game of the Easter weekend series will take place Friday, March 29 with first-pitch scheduled for 3:00 pm MT.
