LOGAN, Utah – A straight-set victory and some early singles successes for the Air Force women's tennis team proved not enough to overcome Utah State on Friday afternoon, as the Falcons went down 4-1 at the Aggies' Sports Academy & Raquet Club in Logan.
Air Force fell in a tight doubles contest, as Utah State clinched the opening point on lines one and two. Arianna Van Houweling/Nadia Kojonroj, tied at 4-4 in the doubles set with Aggie pairing Zeynep Naz Ozturk/Laura Fernanda Eugenio De Hilario, fell in back-to-back games to go down 6-4. On line three, Isabella Flodin/Alexis Odom, at 6-6 against Magdalena Nunez Pureco/Niyati Kukreti and vying for match point when Utah State clinched doubles off a 6-1 win on line two over Joselyn Limbago/Giovanna Sanchirico.
Kojonroj, on the second flight in singles, picked up the Falcons' one point of the day, defeating Lisa Kűng, 6-3, 6-0, and improving to 6-3. All six of Kojonroj's victories in her freshman season have been earned in straight sets.
On court four, Alexis Odom, battling with Aggie Indya Nespor, took a 6-4 win in the opening set then fell likewise in the second after tying 4-4, before going down 6-1 in the third. On lines one, two and three, Air Force fell in straight sets.
From Head Coach Taylor Hollander:
"Utah state really wanted it today. I'm proud of our freshman Nadia Kojonroj for getting us on the board against a quality opponent and senior Isabella Flodin who leaves it out on the court every match. As coaches, all we want to see every match is heart and fight. Today was not our day but we still believe this in this group and know they are capable of anything."
