BOISE, Idaho – The Air Force women's tennis team put up a fight on Saturday, pushing Boise State in singles play and earning a pair of wins, but the Falcons ultimately fell, 4-2, at the Broncos' Appleton Tennis Center.
After going down on line two in doubles, Air Force fell just shy of securing the point as Arianna Van Houweling/Nadia Kojonroj played Boise's Nicole Discenza/Lorelyz Marruffo to a 4-4 tie, before falling in their final two games. On court three, freshman pair Joselyn Limbago/Giovanna Sanchirico were tied at 5-5 with Boise's Ana Conde Vendrell/Joana Baptista when the Broncos clinched.
In singles, the Falcons bagged wins on lines two and three. Nadia Kojonroj won back-to-back games in her opening set and held a lead throughout the second to defeat Marruffo, 6-4, 6-3 and close the weekend with a pair of straight-set singles victories. Alexis Odom won ten-straight games on line four over Bronco Joana Baptista, downing her opponent 6-0, 6-2.
Air Force went down on courts six, four and five in order. On court one, sophomore Arianna Van Houweling fell 7-5 to Pauline Ernstberger in their first set and was tied at 4-4 and seeking to even the score, when Boise State clinched on line five.
Coach Hollander on effort shown by the Falcons on Saturday:
"Today's battle was what we expect from this team. They bounced back and put their foot on the gas, and we couldn't be more proud of their effort today. I know Boise State felt the pressure and we are only going to keep moving forward from here."
