Air Force Heads to Golden for Kit Mayer Classic

The Air Force track and field team remains in Colorado this week, as it makes its first trip to Golden in more than a decade to compete at the Kit Mayer Classic on Friday, April 19.
MEET INFORMATION
The Kit Mayer Classic will be held at the Stermole Track and Field Complex in Golden. The meet, which begins at 9:00 a.m. (MT), was originally scheduled as a two-day meet, but condensed into one (Friday, April 19) due to an unfavorable weekend weather forecast/ The lineup includes the Falcons' local DI counterparts from Colorado, Colorado State, Northern Colorado, and Wyoming, as well as teams from Colorado Christian, Colorado Mesa, CSU Pueblo, MSU Denver, New Mexico Highlands, Regis, UCCS, Western Colorado and host Colorado Mines. Admission is free, but fans will have to pay for parking (recommended location is Lot K). A complete schedule of events is below and results will be posted on minesathletics.com/tracklive.

9:00 a.m.: 10,000-Meter Run (women only), followed by 5000-Meter Run, 1500-Meter Run, 4x100-Meter Relay, 400-Meter Dash, 110-/100-Meter Hurdles, 100-Meter Dash, 800-Meter Run, 400-Meter Hurdles, 200-Meter Dash, 4x400-Meter Relay; 10:00 a.m.: Women's Hammer Throw, followed by Men's Hammer Throw, Women's Discus Throw, Men's Discus Throw, Women's Shot Put, Men's Shot Put, Women's Javelin Throw, Men's Javelin Throw; 10:00 a.m.: Women's Long Jump, followed by Men's Long Jump, Women's Triple Jump, Men's Triple Jump; 3:00 p.m.: Women's Pole Vault, followed by Men's Pole Vault; 3:00 p.m.: Women's High Jump, followed by Men's High Jump (unless noted, the men will compete first in all running events)

Air Force will be making its first trip to Golden for an outdoor track and field meet this Friday, as its previous attempt in 2017 was cancelled due to weather. The Falcons have competed in three indoor meets at Colorado Mines – sending a full squad to the Joe Davies Open in 2013 and small split-squad lineups to the Mines Open in 2004 and 1995.

AIR FORCE IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Headlined by a Top 10 rankings from Texas Tanner (No. 7 in the hammer throw, 237'5"), four Falcons are listed among the NCAA's top 25 in the latest TFRRS rankings (April 15). Darek Hackett is ranked No. 11 in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.26, while Jason Renze is ranked 22nd in the 3000-meter steeplechase (8:46.23) and Luke Combs is listed 24th in the 10,000-meter run (28:24.84).
#SQUADGOALS
The men's 400-meter hurdles is ranked among the nation's Top 10 in the April 16 edition of the USTFCCCA #EventSquad rankings – a list which is determined by the cumulative season-best marks from a team's top-four athletes in the national descending order list. The quartet of Darek Hackett, Cameron Breier, Ryan Hajek and Seth Meador have combined for a season-best time of 3:32.99 to rank ninth in the nation.
COMING UP
The Falcons split up next week for a pair of competitions. Part of the team will head to Des Moines, Iowa, for the 114th-running of the Drake Relays on April 24-27, while the rest of the squad remains in Colorado for the Doug Max Invitational in Fort Collins on April 27.
