COLORADO SPRINGS- A close contest early, defensive miscues and a stalled offensive attack saw Air Force lose grip on the game as the Falcons were defeated 12-6.
Chase Spencer led the Falcons with a 3-5 line atop the order, as the junior's day at the plate was highlighted by a triple in the 4th.
Zach Peters was 1-3, as his bases-clearing double in the 3rd saw the Falcons reclaim a 5-3 lead. Peters also walked and scored a run.
Jay Thomason was 2-5 with a double, while Walker Zapp drove in RBIs five and six of the series after a two-run double in the 2nd. Charlie Jones plated a run in the 5th after an RBI single.
On the mound, Dylan Rogers made his 10th start of the spring. The junior handled the Wolf Pack well the first time through the order before running into trouble in the 3rd.
Nevada opened the 3rd with three-consecutive hits, including a pair of doubles in succession, as the Wolf Pack eventually took hold of a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom half of the inning. Peters' three-run double would see Air Force regain a 5-3 lead going into the 4th.
The visitors again forced pressure the following inning, as Rogers allowed a double and an RBI single to trim the Falcons lead to 5-4. Rogers was pulled after 3.2 innings, and he was eventually responsible for five earned runs.
Kyle Moats entered with two outs in the 4th, inheriting the bases-loaded. Moats plunked the first man he faced to see the tying run score, though the senior limited the damage by inducing a groundout. The score was 5-5 after four full innings.
The Wolf Pack added two more runs in the 5th, though Jones' single in the bottom half of the inning put the Falcons down just a run at 7-6. Nevada immediately countered with two more runs in the 6th, as Moats' line closed at four earned runs over 2.1 innings. He was later hit with the loss.
With a 9-6 score, Gaines Estridge pitched the 7th and saw three unearned runs come to the plate after two errors in the inning, as the Falcons were on the hook for four total errors on Sunday.
Bowen Brantingham and Joey Collier tossed an inning each over the final two frames, as the two held Nevada off the scoreboard after the Wolf Pack had scored in each of the previous five innings.
After Charlie Jones' RBI single in the 5th, Air Force compiled just two more hits the remainder of the game. The Falcons struck out 13 times on Sunday.
Next, Air Force and Nevada will close the eventful weekend with a rubber game scheduled for 12:00 pm MT on Monday, April 29.
