
Fonseca Named to Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar Team

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force rising junior Alvaro Fonseca was named to the Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar Team, as selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Fonseca is the eighth Falcon to earn the honor and the first since Tate Tatom in 2018.
A management major with a 3.29 grade point average, Fonseca has been named to the Mountain West all-academic team twice.
Fonseca was named the team's MVP for the 2023-24 season. He led the team with a season stroke average of 74.23 and had a team-high eight rounds at par or better. He was the team's highest finisher in five of the 10 tournaments this season. At the Mountain West Championships, he placed 12th with a 54-hole score of 215 (-1). His place and score are the best by a Falcon at the conference championship since 2017.
To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
