Air Force men's basketball is currently in the midst of its Canada tour, playing five games in a seven day span from July 29-Aug. 4. Ethan Taylor, a senior team co-captain recounts his first two days in Toronto.
We landed around 4 pm ET in Toronto and quickly got through customs and onto the bus. As we drove into the city, our tour guide, Richard, pointed out all the significant landmarks and places of interest as we drove from the airport into downtown Toronto. We passed by BMO Field, the home of the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL and Toronto FC of the MLS. In addition, we drove by the OVO Athletic Centre, which is the practice facility of the Toronto Raptors.
After getting settled in we went to The Keg Steakhouse and had a great team dinner. It happened to be coach Scott's birthday so we surprised him by singing happy birthday for him.
On Monday morning we headed up to the CN Tower and saw some incredible views. Speaking of, that was the same tower that Drake used for the cover of his 'Views' album. After getting down we went to a restaurant called Rec and entertainment, were we got food and played some arcade games and competed against some locals. On our drive to the CN Tower, we drove by Scotiabank Arena, home of the Raptors and The Maple Leafs of the NHL. We also got to see the Rogers Centre, home of the Toronto Blue Jays of MLB, as the stadium was right next to the CN Tower.
Monday evening, we had a good first game against a tough McMaster team. We were able to play a lot of the younger players and get them experience. It was pretty interesting playing with the FIBA rules that are different than the rules we have at home. I was able to meet up with my sister and other players met up with their families after the game, so that was cool as well.
