Canada Tour Diary Entry #2: Kolby Gilles
8/2/2024 1:20:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Air Force men's basketball is currently in the midst of its Canada tour, playing five games in a seven day span from July 29-Aug. 4. Kolby Gilles, a sophomore forward, recounts days 3-5 of the trip.
TUESDAY
Tuesday was a game day for us against Toronto Metro at night. In the morning, we had a lift with coach Bryce before breakfast then we went and walked to the Eaton Center and City Hall. We enjoyed going to the OVO store in the Eaton Center since many of us on the team are Drake fans. After that, we went and explored new places to eat in Toronto for lunch and then went back to the hotel to rest up before our game. We had a slow start against TMU in the first half, but in the second half we rallied and played our basketball and ended up with a win. We did a gift exchange with TMU after the game and received cool Canadian memorabilia.
WEDNESDAY
Wednesday was a travel day for us, leaving Toronto and driving to Montreal. It was around a five hour drive, with a stop in Kingston to stretch our legs and get a good lunch. It was very pretty in Kingston since it is right on Lake Ontario and we enjoyed our short stint in the city before arriving in Montreal. Once we arrived in Montreal, we did a quick walking tour of the city before going on our own to get dinner. We saw the arena where the Montreal Canadiens play and some other cool sights near our hotel.
THURSDAY
Thursday we had another lift before breakfast then we went on a sightseeing tour of Montreal. We visited Mount Royal Park and then visited Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal. Both sites were interesting to see and there was a lot of cool history at the Church. I really enjoyed the crypt church and seeing the collection of walking canes of those who were healed. After our tour, we then began to prepare for our game versus Concordia University. We had a pretty rough game against them, but kept fighting until the end.
