
Mavor named Charlie bracket champion at Bedford Cup

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Wrapping on a successful weekend by all metrics, Air Force Women's Tennis capped day three of hosting its sixth annual Bedford Cup in the Mountains with wins across the board and a title in hand.
Freshman Sofia Mavor capped a 4-0 weekend winning the Charlie title, earning a 6-1 first set over Colorado State's Logan Voeks, before Voeks retired the match, ceding the title to Mavor.
In the Delta championship, sophomore Giovanna Sanchirico fell 6-0, 6-2, to Idaho State's Millie Day. Despite the loss, Sanchirico got her second Air Force season off the ground with a 3-1 record.
Sophomore Nadia Kojonroj, set to compete in the West final of the Alpha bracket against Montana State's Meg McCarty, was given the victory due to injury withdrawal from the match to finish her weekend at 3-1.
Senior Alexis Odom finished third in the Bravo flight, defeating New Mexico senior Maria Sodre 6-0, 6-3 to start her season at 3-1.
Freshman Shivaani Selvan fell in the Charlie west final to Utah State's Magdalena Nunez Pureco, 6-4, 6-2, to close her opening weekend with a 2-2 record.
Duo Arianna Van Houweling/Mavor won the western final of the Red doubles draw, defeating Wyoming pair Eugenia Cenios/Serina Abriola, 6-3, winning three-straight to improve to 3-1.
Gidley Golden Ball:
Denver claimed ownership of the Alpha title on Saturday with their own Andrea Beltran and Claudia Martinez de Velasco both advancing into the championship. Beltran, earning a 6-4, 6-2 win, was the recipient of the Gidley Golden Ball for claiming champ status in the top flight.
