Youngsters Step into the Ring During Friday Night Fights

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – A relatively young lineup of Air Force boxers kicked off the 2024-25 season this evening (Sept. 27), as they stepped into the ring of the Cadet Gym Boxing Room for 11 hard-hitting bouts during the first Friday Night Fights of the year.
Freshman Russell Klug earned the only early victory of the night, as he forced the referee to stop his 145-pound bout with classmate Davin McArty in the second round. Junior Duong Tran decisioned sophomore Freddy Ceciliano Jr. at 133 pounds, while fellow sophomore Ellison Taylor kicked off his classmate season with a 18-pound decision over freshman Patrick Weaver, and junior Dominic Felix defeated sophomore Kenichiro Leong by decision in the 143-pound weight class. Sophomore Sebastyan Correa Rios (vs sophomore James Burnias) and freshman Jaydan Douglas (vs freshman Sam Banduah) captured divisions in the 14-pound and 149-pound divisions, respectively, while newcomer Niko Phelps won his 163-pound bout with sophomore Michael Scappaticci and junior Christian Hughes earned the heavyweight win over sophomore Connor Herford.
On the women's side, senior Cass Rosa captured a unanimous victory over junior Charlotte McPhee-Gillum in the first of two bouts in the 125-pound weight division, while freshman Naomi Nunez earned a split decision over classmate Olivia Fess in the other bout. Fellow freshman Sela Panuve rounded out the women's list of intersquad champions, as she claimed a split decision over classmate Sienna Groves in the 160-pound bout.
The Falcons return to the Cadet Gym Boxing Room next Friday (Oct. 4), when they host Navy in the annual showdown between the two service academies. Action is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. (MT).
