Mercer Outscores Air Force, 3-0

MACON – Air Force lost to Mercer, 3-0, Saturday evening at Betts Stadium. Mercer improved to 4-2-4 on the season while the Falcons drop to 0-7-1 in the wake of the final non-conference match of the season.

Air Force attempted 12 shots in the game, five on goal, led by carter Rizzo with three shots while Tyler Kato and Bradley Poppell attempted two shots each. Mercer's Barzee Blama took six of the Bears' 13 shots.

The Falcons held the talented Mercer team to a scoreless first half, defending against eight shots and making two saves in the first 45 minutes.

The Bears gained traction in the 51^st minute as Segun Afolabi scored a goal via Kadeem Agard's service. In the 80^th minute, Mercer struck again as Nick Wanzer and Afolabi connected to Blama who notched his third goal this season. The Bears extended to three goals in the 85^th minute with Afolabi's second goal.

Falcon keeper Will Collins made four saves while counterpart Trevor McMullen made five saves to secure the shutout. Kyle Skevington and Andrew Durkin clocked 90 minutes of action in the effort.

Next up, Air Force opens Western Athletic Conference play at USAFA, hosting San Jose State and Seattle U, on Thursday (Oct. 3) and Sunday (Oct. 6), respectively. Action at Cadet Soccer Stadium is slated for 6 p.m. on Thursday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
