U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. – Despite a blistering offense that outpaced the Montana Grizzlies throughout the evening, the Air Force women's soccer was unable to take advantage, leaving Cadet Soccer Stadium on Thursday evening with a 0-0 draw.
Air Force (3-1-1) finished its evening with 28 shots and nine on-goal from ten separate players compared to five total on the evening for the Grizzles (4-2-1).
Sophomore Chase Borntreger led the game in offensive production putting up seven shots of her own, setting a new career-high and putting up a pair that required saving in the Montana net. Fellow sophomore Kendall Rippley and junior tandem Eleanor Musgrove and Caeli Sherman each added four shots of their own to the stat sheet; Sophomore Julia Tierney logged three, also setting a new career benchmark.
Despite the skew in numbers and a variety of different looks at the Grizzlies' net, the Montana defense refused to relent for 90 minutes. Montana goalkeeper Bayliss Flinn ended her evening in career fashion, facing nine saves to set a new high-water mark for the Grizzlies' newly minted keeper.
Air Force looked much the aggressor throughout the first half, dominating possession while the Falcon back line kept the Grizzlies in check. Heading into half, the Falcons had put up 16 shots, including Borntreger's pair of on-goal attempts and a header from Jordan Dillingham off a corner kick that just sailed above the crossbar. The Falcons had forced Flinn into seven saves before half but were unable to capitalize.
In the second, Air Force managed to keep the pressure up, earning 12 shots to Montana's four, including Sherman's one shot on-goal of the evening, which required every inch of Flinn's reach to keep above the net – but were only able to force Flinn into two saves total in the second half.
