U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Bentley goalie Connor Hasley stopped all 33 shots he faced in a 1-0 win over Air Force in an Atlantic Hockey America game Friday, Jan. 10, at the Cadet Ice Arena.
In a scoreless first period, Air Force outshot Bentley, 10-9. With six minutes left in the first period, Bentley's Chase Davis found some space on the right side, but Air Force goalie Guy Blessing quickly slid to his left to make the save and keep the net clean.
Late in the second with Air Force on a power play, Bentley's leading scorer, Ethan Leyh, had a clean short-handed breakaway, but Blessing made the save with under 30 seconds left in the period.
Early in the third period, Bentley's Jimmy Doyle made a long outlet pass to Kellan Hjartarson on the left side. Hjartarson's wrister from the left circle at 1:05 of the third period broke the scoreless tie. Two minutes after the goal, Air Force's Chris Hedden had a mini-breakaway, but Hasley made the save. With 1:46 left in the game, Air Force pulled the goalie for the extra attacker. Hasley made three saves, before a penalty on Air Force gave Bentley a power play.
Air Force out-shot Bentley, 33-30. Bentley was 0-for-4 on the power play while Air Force was 0-for-2. Blessing made 29 saves for the Falcons.
"Both teams played so hard tonight," head coach Frank Serratore said. "This was a really entertaining game. Both teams played good defense and both goalies made some great saves. We are in the same spot we have been in the last three series. And we have found a way to win on Saturday in the previous two. They are a really good team. The bottom line is they found a way to get a goal and we didn't."
Air Force (10-12-1, 7-6-0 AHA) and Bentley )12-7-2, 10-4-1 AHA) conclude the two-game series Saturday, Jan. 11, at 5:05 pm MT at the Cadet Ice Arena.
