Falcons Win 5-2 Over UC Davis in Home-Opener

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's tennis rolled to a 5-2 win over UC Davis (0-2) in its Spring home-opener Sunday morning at the USAFA Indoor Tennis Courts in the Cadet Gym.

The Falcons won the doubles points and went 4-2 in singles.

Air Force opened with wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles. Arjun Kersten and Jack Brown won at No. 1, taking down Ryan Torres/Ivan Savkin 6-3. After the Aggies won at No. 3, Phillip Deaton and AJ Moore won at No. 2 over Lucas Bollinger/Kaveh Taheri 6-4 for the clinching win.

In singles, Kersten opened with a win at No. 1 over Torres in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.

After UC Davis won at No. 2, the Falcons picked up three consecutive wins. Moore won at No. 4 over Rithvik Katpelly in straight sets 7-5, 6-4. Alec Fritzinger then clinched the win for the Falcons at No. 3, taking down Savkin in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. Matthew Staton then capped a perfect 2-0 weekend with a win at No. 5 over Sam De Vries 7-5, 6-1.

"Excellent team win from the Falcons! First, we want to thank all the Falcon fans who braved the weather to support us this morning. Second, I'm proud of our guys for working through the tough moments and big points. This was a very close match with several momentum shifts. We handled big points well, and thankfully were able to break back and hang on to close out some key matches. Very proud of the full team effort, and we're looking to build on it in our first road trip to Arizona next weekend."

Air Force returns to action Saturday, Jan. 25 against UC Riverside and Sunday, Jan. 26 against Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, Ariz.
