Air Force Rallies In Singles To Down UC Riverside, 4-1

Air Force men's tennis (2-2) defeated UC Riverside 4-1 in a neutral-site non-conference dual Sunday at the NAU Tennis Complex in Flagstaff, Ariz.

After dropping the doubles point, the Falcons went 4-0 in singles to clinch the match.

The Falcons went 1-2 in doubles. Alec Fritzinger and Langdon Tingleaf picked up the win at No. 3 over Lucas Mszyca/Alexey Efremov 6-2.

In singles, Phillip Deaton kicked things off with a win at No. 2 over Hug DeGrande in a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win. Tingleaf then put the Falcons ahead with another big win at No. 6 over Efremov 6-0, 6-2.

Matthew Staton then won at No. 5 over Ryan Huynh 6-0, 6-3 to improve to 4-0 on the season in singles. AJ Moore clinched the match for Air Force with the win at No. 4 over Lucas Suarez 6-4, 6-2.

Head coach Evan Urbina recapping the UC Riverside match:
"After a slow start in doubles, we played with a sense of urgency in singles to get the win today. The lesson for the team is that we have to be ready to execute from the very first point. Against good teams you don't get many second chances. Langdon Tingleaf and Phillip Deaton were especially tough in singles today, and they fueled a dominant singles performance. We are looking forward to next week's matches in Oklahoma and will keep improving."

Air Force returns to action tomorrow next weekend with a pair of matches in Norman, Okla. The Falcons take on Oral Roberts on Friday, Jan. 31 and host Oklahoma on Saturday, Feb. 1.
