
Air Force Women's Soccer Hosts Utah State on Thursday

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo., - Falcons women's soccer (2-5-2, 0-1) is back at Cadet Soccer Stadium, hosting their first home Mountain West match for the season against Utah State (4-4-3, 1-0-1) on Thursday October 2 at 6 p.m. MT.

Base Access:
Access procedures at the U.S. Air Force Academy continue to affect athletic events. While the installation remains open, anyone without a DoD ID card must obtain a visitor pass to enter the base.
New this year: Passes will now be issued monthly instead of requiring a separate submission for each event. This means ticket holders only need to complete the form once per month to gain access to all events during that time. Ticket holders can request a base pass using this link.
After registering, you will receive a message on our phone to present at the gate when entering the Academy. Fans must also present their game tickets at each venue. All tickets and credentialed attendees can enter through the North or South gate. North gate is recommended for access to athletic fields.
All-Time Versus the Aggies
Air Force has played a total of 16 matches against Utah State, dating back to the first matchup in 1996, an away loss for the Falcons. AFA holds a losing record of 3-10-3 with the most recent win in 2023. Overall, the Aggies have outscored Air Force, 23-7.
Last Time Out
Air Force women's soccer (2-5-2, 0-1) fell to the Grand Canyon (6-4, 1-1) in their Mountain West opener, 4-2, on Sunday September 28 at GCU Stadium. The Falcons logged a season-high 18 shots on goal and saw Annika Jost score her third goal of the season, while Chase Borntreger scored her second. In goal, Trishelle Lopez managed four saves and freshman Ellie McCarron notched her second career assist.
An action-packed first half featured five goals and 19 shots between the two programs, with Lopes' forward Reese Clem converting off a free kick in the second minute. Air Force was quick to respond through Borntreger who fired a trio of early shots before driving one in from distance and deflecting off a GCU defender, for her second goal of the season at the 12' mark, leveling the score at 1-1.
The Falcons pulled ahead, 2-1, when McCarron fed Jost from the left side of the pitch, allowing Jost to chip the ball out of the goalkeeper's reach at 15'.
Grand Canyon retaliated with a goal at 17', once again from Clem, to even the match and utilized their momentum to take a 3-2 lead with a goal from Grace Bartlett in the 28th minute.
Out of the locker room in the second half, the Falcons held strong possession, but the Lopes sealed the match at the 83-minute mark with a header rebound from Ellie Johannes, finalizing the score at 4-2.
On the Attack
The Falcons are averaging 1.33 goals per game, with 12 total on the year. The attackers have been active in the offensive third with 15.8 shots per game, 142 combined shots, of which 67 were on goal. Nine individual Falcons have scored at least one goal, while Annika Jost currently leads Air Force with seven points off three goals and an assist. Right behind Jost, Chase Borntreger has logged a pair of both goals and assists for six points. Addie Doyle and Ellie McCarron have also recorded two assists for two points apiece.
Defensive Command
Defensively, Jordan Dillingham has totaled a team-high 750 minutes playing an aggressive backline along with one goal against Northern Colorado, the first of her career. Team Captain Samantha Sharp and Raine Komata, along with Ava Carpentier have made statements in the midfield, making strong decisions to begin the attack and apply pressure to opponents.
Freshmen Fight
Freshmen forwards, AJ Heap and Zahra Friess are showing up as strong forces for the Falcons. Heap scored her first collegiate goal against Northern Colorado after making six starts and appearing in all nine games so far this season. The Ogden, Utah native has totaled nine shots with four on goal in her 322 minutes of play. Friess earned her first career start against UNC and scored her first goal in the Falcon uniform at Eastern Washington, while logging four shots on goal in 306 minutes.
In Goal
Freshman, Trishelle Lopez, has claimed the starting spot in seven Falcon games this season to total 630 minutes of play. The Cape Coral, Fla., native has managed 30 saves for a .698 save percentage. She posted a season-best performance against Rutgers, collecting her first collegiate shutout, a career-high six saves, and USAFA's Cadet Athlete of the Week honors. Lopez has recorded a trio of six-save matches.
Veteran goalkeeper, Kylie McElroy has taken a pair of starts to open the season, most recently at Gonzaga. She asserted her dominance in goal, collecting her first shutout of the season, 2-0, and recording a season-high seven saves.
How Air Force Stacks Up
The Falcons' 142 shots line up at fourth in the Mountain West, tied with Utah State while the 1.33 goals/game sits at fifth. The goalkeepers' combined 40 saves are ranked sixth. Chase Borntreger ranks fifth in shots per game (2.67) and seventh in shots (24) in comparison to MW opponents.
