
Falcons fall to Colorado College, 4-2

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Colorado College scored three goals in the third period for a 4-2 win over Air Force, Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Cadet Ice Arena. In the only meeting between the two long-time rivals this season, Colorado College won the Pikes Peak Trophy.
After a scoreless first period, Colorado College took the early lead on a breakaway by Bret Link at 1:12 of the second. Air Force rallied for two goals in the final seven minutes of the second period. Will Dawson drew penalty and the Falcons capitalized. Will Staring scored with a shot from the right point at 12:58. Freshman Aidan Willis and junior Brendan Gibbons assisted on the goal. Air Force took the lead with five seconds left in the second. Freshman Cole Christian scored his first career goal from Owen Dubois and Jake Peterson for a 2-1 lead.
A pair of CC goals by Owen Beckner gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead, his game-winner coming with 7:11 remaining. With 2:52 remaining, Ryan Alexander scored an empty-netter to seal the game.
Air Force continues its four-game home stand with a two-game series against 19th-ranked St. Thomas, Friday-Saturday, Oct. 17-18, at Cadet Ice Arena.
