U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo., - The Falcons (5-6-3, 3-2-1) completed their third Mountain West win, 3-1, over UNLV (3-9-4, 1-3-3) on Thursday night at Cadet Soccer Stadium. Air Force tied their season high with a trio of goals from Addie Doyle, Peyton Ferrell, and Annika Jost.
Overall, Air Force led the attack, out-shooting the Rebels 18-9, with six shots on goal. Doyle recorded a three-point game, with one goal and one assist, while AJ Heap and Maddy Walsh both accounted for an assist, as well. In goal, Trishelle Lopez closed the match with four saves.
The Falcons were on top of their game, maintaining strong possession throughout the first half. With her first goal of the season, Doyle broke the scoreless tie in the 15th minute after Heap slipped her the ball from the left side of the box, allowing Doyle to slot it around the Rebels' keeper.
Air Force extended their lead just before halftime to 2-0. Following a corner kick at the 40' mark, a flurry of shots in the box ended with Ferrell finding the ball right and striking it past the defenders.
After the break, Doyle pushed up the right wing and crossed to Maddy Walsh, who connected with Jost for a slip into the back of the net at the 53rd minute, for a commanding 3-0 advantage. UNLV managed to break the shutout in the 85th minute with a header off a corner kick but were unable to keep Air Force from the 3-1 victory.
Air Force looks to face Nevada on Sunday October 19 for their Cancer Awareness match. Kickoff at Cadet Soccer Stadium is slated for 1 p.m. MT.
