UConn defeats Air Force, 26-16

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. – UConn running back Cam Edwards rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Huskies to a 26-16 win over Air Force, Saturday, Nov. 15, in East Hartford, Conn.

UConn (8-3 overall) scored on its first possession of the game, going 40 yards in seven plays. Quarterback Joe Fagnano capped the drive with a 10-yard run, but a fumbled snap on the PAT, as the Huskies took a 6-0 lead at 10:29 of the first quarter.

Air Force got on the board later in the first quarter as fullback Dylan Carson scored. Carson capped a 10-play, 75-yard drive with a six-yard rush with 4:48 left in the first. The converted PAT gave the Falcons a 7-6 lead.

Air Force turned the ball over on downs on its next two possessions as the Huskies came up with a pair of fourth-down stops. The second stop came with 5:00 left in the second quarter after a 19-play, 91-yard drive that took 11:50 off the clock. Quarterback Liam Szarka took an option play over the left side, but was tackled at the two-yard line on fourth down. UConn closed out the first half with a field goal for a 9-7 lead.

The Huskies had the ball first in the second half and went 79 yards in six plays as Edwards scored on an eight-yard run for a 16-7 lead with 11:18 left in the third quarter. After a Falcon senior Reagan Tubbs' 36-yard field goal late in the third, UConn added a field goal early in the fourth for a 19-10 lead.

Late in the fourth quarter, UConn took a 26-10 lead as Edwards scored his second of the game with 5:28 left. The five-yard scoring run completed a 10-play, 84-yard drive that took 6:24 off the clock. Carson's second of the game, on a two-yard run with 2:29 left, made up the final margin. Air Force's onside kick was unsuccessful and UConn ran out the clock for its eighth win of the season.

Air Force (3-7 overall) hosts New Mexico, Saturday, Nov. 22, at 5 p.m. at Falcon Stadium in the final home game of the season.
