LOGAN, Utah – Air Force Women's Basketball battled back to a tie late in the third quarter with Utah State on Wednesday evening, but a fourth-quarter surge by the Aggies left the Falcons with a 65-53 loss at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan.
Junior Keelie O'Hollaren's 16 points (4-12 FG, 7-9 FT) led Air Force scoring; Senior Emily Adams and fellow junior Jayda McNabb both contributed 10 points apiece, with McNabb adding 10 rebounds. McNabb, who ranks third in the nation in offensive rebounding, has posted four double doubles on the season in Air Force's first 11 games.
Trailing by single digits to start, O'Hollaren got the Air Force offense off the ground in the opening minutes, scoring on her first three-point attempt of the game and a fast break at the Aggie rim on consecutive plays. A 6-0 Utah State run at the close of the first quarter was cut off by a three-point shooting foul favoring Air Force and successful free throws for O'Hollaren. The Falcons trailed 18-13 after the first quarter.
The Falcons settled into their defensive game in the second quarter, forcing the Aggies into four turnovers down the final five minutes of the half. Despite managing to rattle the Utah State offense, Air Force struggled to find baskets and had to weather a four-minute cold streak through the middle stages of the second quarter. A last-second heave on the final possession of the half for Aggie Aaliyah Gayles left the Falcons with a 33-21 deficit to overcome at halftime.
The Aggies' lead inflated to 11 in the early minutes of the second half, but Air Force found its footing and took off on an 11-1 run, with Jordyn Devaughn scoring five in the process. A driving and-one for senior Milahnie Perry and successful free throw tied the game at 40-all with 43 seconds to go in the third quarter, but the Aggies responded on the opposite end with a triple to maintain a 43-40 lead entering the final quarter.
Utah State, who had previously lost nine-straight games to the Falcons in a streak that extended back to 2021, answered with a 12-2 run that lifted the Aggies back to a double-digit advantage which held for the remainder of the game.
For the game, Air Force (6-5, 0-1 MW) led Utah State in points off turnovers (22), offensive rebounds (16), bench points (18), points in the paint (30), points off fast breaks (13) and steals (eight).
