SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- After claiming a silver medal on the pommel horse at last weekend's Winter Cup in Louisville, Air Force senior gymnast Patrick Hoopes was named Specialist of the Week by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation this morning (Feb. 26) – marking the third time this season that he has claimed the conference's weekly honor.
Hoopes recorded a two-day score of 27.750 to finish second on his signature event at Winter Cup – a placement that secured him a return to the U.S. Senior National Team. After tallying a 13.800 on Friday, he posted the second-highest score of the meet on Sunday (13.950) to move from fourth to second in the overall standings to secure his podium finish.
The Falcons are off from team competition until March 14, but Hoopes will travel to Baku, Azerbaijan, for his first international assignment of the year – the Baku World Cup – on March 6-9.
