U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – It was a Senior Day to remember for the Air Force Women's Basketball team, as the Falcons honored their two upcoming graduates with a 75-68 win over Boise State on Saturday afternoon in the 2024-25 home finale at Clune Arena.
Senior Madison Smith closed the day with a game high 28 points (11-23 FG, 4-9 3FG), coming up one point shy of a season high. Smith added nine rebounds and six steals, tying a career best.
Junior Milahnie Perry finished the day with 25 points (11-23 FG, 4-9 3FG), 14 of which were earned in the second half.
Fellow senior Jo Huntimer, though only closing with three points on the day, had 11 assists, which ties Cortney Porter (2017-18) for the most assists earned in a single season in the Falcons' Division I history.
Air Force trailed Boise State 21-19 to close out the first quarter behind a 12-point start for Smith. The Falcons opened on a 10-2 run and outscored the Broncos 12-4 in the first three minutes of the contest. Boise State responded with a 9-0 run to take its first lead at 5:24, before four more lead changes concluded in a Bronco lead after the first 10 minutes.
An and-one finish for Boise State's Libby Hutton pushed the Broncos out to a five-point lead in the first minute of the second quarter. Air Force tied the score twice but struggled to regain the lead before a second-chance tip-in for sophomore Jayda McNabb bought the Falcons a 30-29 lead that they would only briefly give up in the third quarter.
Back-to-back Smith steals and six points for Perry at the Bronco basket got Air Force back up 34-29 at the second-quarter under-five media timeout; The Falcons, up by a point with a possession left in the half, inbound with three seconds on the clock. Perry, advancing along the right side in the waning seconds, pulled up from 25 feet to beat the buzzer and send Air Force into the locker room with a 39-25 halftime lead.
Boise State briefly regained a lead; but a Huntimer three-pointer – her only basket of the game – took it back for good, while sparking a 12-2 Falcon run, capped by Jordyn Devaughn's second three of the game to push a 51-42 lead and force Boise State Head Coach Gordy Presnell to take a timeout. The Falcons outscored Boise State 8-3 down the back half of the third quarter, including a second buzzer-beating shot by Perry to push a 59-47 advantage.
The Broncos outscored Air Force 21-16 in the fourth quarter, but were unable to even the score, as Smith and Perry combined for all 16 points to close out the Falcons' home finale.
At 17 wins, Head Coach Stacy McIntyre ties the most by an Air Force head coach in their inaugural season, with an opportunity to claim the record on Tuesday at New Mexico.
Saturday's win places the Falcons in sole possession of seventh place in the Mountain West standings, with a potential Tuesday win at UNM to open the door for a shot at sixth before postseason play begins.
