LAS VEGAS – Air Force Women's Basketball, seeking its biggest-ever conference tournament upset, held a halftime lead over two-seed Wyoming in the 2025 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Women's Basketball Championship, but ultimately fell 77-64 to the Cowgirls on Monday evening at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Senior Madison Smith closed the night with a team-high 14 points; Sophomore Jordyn Devaughn closed out with 13 points; Fellow senior Jo Huntimer and sophomore Keelie O'Hollaren both contributed 11 points, with the former notching six assists along the way.
Air Force led 17-12 after the first quarter, led off by a 2-2 start from three-point range for sophomore Jordyn Devaughn. The Falcons gained a lead in the opening minutes and stayed out in front for the quarter, trading baskets in a one-possession affair before Devaughn dropped in her second trey at the buzzer to give Air Force a five-point advantage after one.
Air Force held and grew its lead in the second, pushing a six-point advantage at halftime. Mountain West Player of the Year Allyson Fertig had her way at the Air Force rim, going 4-5 and leading Wyoming with eight second-quarter points. The Falcons managed to match Wyoming backet-for-bucket before Huntimer and junior Emily Adams combined for a 6-0 run to give the Falcons a 34-28 lead heading into the locker room.
Coming out of the half, Wyoming immediately cut its deficit back to a basket and tied on a 10-2 run. Three steals on four Wyoming possessions got the Cowgirls momentarily off-rhythm, but a Tess Barnes three-pointer at 3:54 tied the game back up and Wyoming took its first lead since the opening minute of the game off of split free throws for Emily Mellema. From there, a 14-2 Wyoming run capped a 26-point quarter, leaving the Cowgirls up by nine to close the third quarter. A 5-2 stretch led by a pair of layups for Adams looked to get things going again for Air Force midway through the quarter but proved not enough to stem a Wyoming tide which included shooting 4-4 from three-point range and 9-10 from the field.
In the fourth, Smith and O'Hollaren combined for 14 points, but Wyoming managed to hold the Falcons out at arms-length, building out as much as a 16-point lead, resulting in a 77-64 Air Force elimination from postseason play.
