USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's tennis defeated Marist 4-0 in non-conference action Friday night at the USAFA Indoor Tennis Courts.
The Falcons took the doubles point and swept three singles matches in straight sets.
Air Force opened with wins at No. 1 and 3 doubles to get the first point. Arjun Kersten and Jack Brown defeated Nick Suhanitski and Ian Layton 6-4 at No. 1. Alec Fritzinger and Langdon Tingleaf defeated Augustin Damonte/Fateh Singh 6-4 at No. 3.
In singles, Tyler Leaird opened with a win at No. 5 over Nick Koulisis 6-2, 6-3. Kersten then won at No. 1 over Jose Catala 6-2, 6-4. Brown then clinched the match for the Falcons with a win at No. 4 over Tomas Gomez, 6-4, 6-4.
Head coach Evan Urbina recapping the match:
"It was great to get back on the court this evening against Marist. Our guys were excited to play. We focused a lot on doubles this week in practice, and it showed in our doubles performance. No team was broken while serving. We're proud of that. In singles, we wanted a solid performance from start to finish, and I'm glad we were able to close out some second sets even after facing significant pressure on our serves. We're back on the court tomorrow evening against a good Idaho State team. They beat us here last year, so we'll be looking to bring the energy and build on tonight's performance."
Air Force returns to action Saturday, March 15, hosting Idaho State. The match begins at 5 pm MT.
