SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- After collecting two event titles and a win in the all-around during last week's triangular at Army West Point, Air Force senior Erich Upton was named Gymnast of the Week by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation this morning (March 18). It is the first weekly conference award for the Houston, Texas, native.
Upton recorded a career-best score of 14.050 to win the floor exercise by more than three-tenths of a point, while adding a first-place tally of 13.350 on the parallel bars. The senior also accounted for a pair of runner-up finishes during the meet with Army and Simpson, as he posted team-leading, second-place scores on the still rings (12.950) and vault (14.000). Backed by top-five scores in five of the six events, Upton claimed the all-around title – registering the second-highest total of his career (79.600) to win the meet by nearly four points.
The Falcons return to action next weekend (March 28-29), when they travel to Annapolis, Md., for the 2025 USAG Collegiate Nationals.
