THIS WEEK: The Air Force golf team travels La Jolla, Calif., to compete in the UC San Diego Invitational, March 23-25, at the Torrey Pines Golf Club. Live scoring will be available on Scoreboard by Clippd.
THE FORMAT: The tournament will be played on the South Course, the home of the 2008 and 2021 U.S. Open. The course was ranked as the fifth-best public course in the country in 2021. Teams will play 18 holes each day, starting at 1 pm PT on Sunday and Monday and at 7 am PT on Tuesday.
THE FIELD: In addition to the host school, UC San Diego, and Air Force, the field includes Arkansas State, Bucknell, Cal State Sacramento, Cal Baptist, CSU Northridge, DePaul, George Mason, Gonzaga, Houston Christian, Lehigh, New Mexico State, North Dakota State, Oklahoma Christian, Prairie View A&M, San Diego State, Seattle, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and Utah State.
THE LINEUP: The Falcon lineup this week will be: 1- Cameron Kahle; 2-Brooks Morrell; 3-Carson Baker; 4-Eli Huntington; 5-Eric Liveringhouse.
LAST TIME OUT: Senior Cameron Kahle placed 38th overall at the Bandon Dunes Championship, March 9-11, at the Bandon Dunes Trails Course in Bandon, Ore. Kahle finished the 54-hole tournament with a 226 (+13), followed by Brooks Morrell (235), Carson Baker (236), Eric Liveringhouse, Eli Huntington (241) and Jackson Scaletta (252). Liveringhouse and Baker led the Falcons on the final day, each shooting a 76 (+5). Oregon, ranked 36th in the nation, won the tournament with an 848 (+4). Utah Valley was second (863), Boise State and North Dakota tied for third at (870). Air Force was 15th at 922.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Sophomore Eli Huntington leads the team with a 73.80 season scoring average with nine rounds at par or better on the season. His 67 in the third round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational was a career best and the best round by a Falcon this season. He has two top-10 finishes this season and one top-5. Among golfers who played more than 10 rounds this season, Kahle has a 75.20, followed by Fonseca (75.36), Davenport (75.79), Morrell (76.00), Liveringhouse (76.20) and Baker (77.60)
ON THE HORIZON: Following the UCSD Invitational, Air Force travels to Maricopa, Ariz., for the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Course, March 31-April 1.
