
Air Force travels Arizona for annual Cowboy Classic, March 31-April 1

THIS WEEK: The Air Force golf team travels to Maricopa, Ariz., for the annual Cowboy Classic, hosted by the University of Wyoming, Monday-Tuesday, March 31-April 1 at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course. Live scoring will be available on GolfStat.
THE FORMAT: Teams will play 36 continuous holes on the first day (March 31) starting at 8:30 am MST. The final 18 holes will be Tuesday, April 1, starting at 8:30 MST. The par-72 course will be set up at 7,546 yards and teams will go off in a shotgun start each day.
THE FIELD: In addition to the host school, Wyoming, and Air Force, the 23-team field includes Arkansas State, Cincinnati, CSU Fullerton, CSU Northridge, Gonzaga, Grand Canyon, Iowa State, Kansas, Long Beach State, Pacific, Northern Colorado, San Diego, Southern California, Southern Utah, St. Mary's, Texas-Arlington, UC Irvine, Utah State, Utah Valley, Weber State, Wichita State. The tournament features 11 teams ranked in the top 100, including four in the top 50 (Long Beach State 27, San Diego 35, USC 42 and Kansas 50).
THE LINEUP: The Falcon lineup this week will be: 1- Carson Baker; 2-Eli Huntington; 3-Cameron Kahle; 4- Brooks Morrell; 5-Eric Liveringhouse; Ind-Jackson Scaletta
LAST TIME OUT: Sophomore Carson Baker led the Air Force golf team at the UC San Diego Invitational, March 23-25, at Torrey Pines Golf Club in La Jolla, Calif. Baker tied for 24th among the 111 golfers with a 54-hole score of 226 (+10). Huntington shot a 229, followed by Morrell and Kahle (237) and Liveringhouse (241). In the final round, Baker shot an even-par 72, making four birdies and 10 pars. The 72 was the best by a Falcon on the iconic and challenging course. New Mexico State, the highest-ranked team in the field at No. 64, rallied in the final round to win the tournament. NMSU shot a 283 in the final round for a 54-hole score of 885 (+21), two shots better than Arkansas State. UC Irvine was third at 891. Air Force shot its best round of the tournament in the final round with a 300. The Falcons placed 15th at 922.
LAST TIME AT THE COWBOY: Air Force shot an even-par 288, the third best round of the season, on the final day of the Cowboy Classic, April 2, at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz. In the final round, a tight grouping of Falcons saw all five players shoot between 71 and 74. Carson Baker shot 71 (-1), Eli Huntington shot 73 (+1) and Cameron Kahle shot 74. Baker and Huntington each shot 220 and Kahle shot a 223 over 54 holes. Grand Canyon won the tournament with an 833 (-31). UNLV was second (835) and Iowa State was third (836). Air Force was 20th with an 876 (+12), one shot ahead of MW rival and the host school, Wyoming.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Sophomore Eli Huntington leads the team with a 73.80 season scoring average with nine rounds at par or better on the season. His 67 in the third round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational was a career best and the best round by a Falcon this season. He has two top-10 finishes this season and one top-5. Among golfers who played more than 10 rounds this season, Kahle has a 75.20, followed by Fonseca (75.36), Davenport (75.79), Morrell (76.00), Liveringhouse (76.20) and Baker (77.60)
ON THE HORIZON: Following the Cowboy Classic, Air Force will compete in the El Macero Classic, April 11-13, in Davis, Calif.
