Air Force men's tennis opened Mountain West play with a tough 4-3 setback at Nevada (10-5, 1-0 MW) Sunday afternoon at McArthur Tennis Center in Reno, Nevada.
With the match delayed due to weather, the teams began with singles play.
Jack Brown gave the Falcons the opening point with a win at No. 6. Brown defeated Remy Tregours in straight sets 6-0, 6-4.
Nevada tied the match up with a win at No. 5. The Falcons then went back ahead 2-1 as Alec Fritzinger won at No. 4 over Rayen Hermassi in straight sets 7-5, 6-2.
The Wolf Pack then won at No. 3 and 1 to take a 3-2 lead.
The Falcons refused to go away, as Arjun Kersten tied the match up at 3-3 with his win at No. 2. Kersten defeated Paul Theate in straight sets 7-5, 7- 6(7-4) to force doubles play.
In doubles play, Nevada opened with a win at No. 1. The duo of Kersten and Brown then won at No. 2 over Tregours and Greg Valente 6-2.
The match came down to the third and final doubles group. Unfortunately, the duo of AJ Moore and Langdon Tingleaf fell to Max Contet and Theate in the match tiebreaker 7-6 (7-2).
Head coach Evan Urbina recapping the match:
"We had great competitiveness in today's match with Nevada. We started with singles, due to the weather, and battled to a 3-3 match which came down to the doubles point. After splitting courts one and two, we lost in a tiebreaker on court three. It was a great overall experience for the team that I'm confident we will learn and grow from. Jack Brown played really well today, and his getting off the court first was huge for our momentum. We are looking forward to this week's home matches. Go Falcons!"
Air Force returns to action Thursday, April 3, hosting Omaha.
