Walker Zapp led at the plate for Air Force, batting a team-best 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in, while Christian Taylor accounted for the other RBI. Alex Adams went 1-for-3 and scored two runs.
On the mound, Easton Miller took the start and moves to 0-1 on the season after throwing one strikeout and allowing four earned runs in one inning pitched. In his second appearance of the season, Gio Sambito threw 1.1 innings and marked a strikeout, and three runs allowed. Ethan Dillinger pitched the most innings for the Falcons, 2.1 and tallied four strikeouts and one unearned run off a single hit. After an appearance from Sam Hentges, Gunner Gilmore took the call to close and allowed one run off two hits.
The Falcons jumped into a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. To open the game, Adams led off with a first pitch single through the left side. The next batter, Ben Niednagel, reached on a fielder's choice, while Adams took second on an error by the Frogs' first baseman. Zapp followed with an RBI single, sending Adams across the plate. A Taylor sacrifice fly allowed Niednagel to score one.
A strikeout from Miller and a ground out, along with a fielder's choice prevented Frog runs in the bottom of one.
In the bottom of the second, TCU pulled ahead, 5-2.
For an 8-2 advantage, the Frogs homered and marked a two RBI double, in the bottom of three.
Air Force fought back to trim the deficit, 8-5, in the top of the fourth frame. Zach Peters singled to third and was joined on base by a hit Cam Anstey. With two down, Falcons filled the bases after Adams drew a walk. The next play saw the trio of base runners take advantage of an error by the TCU centerfielder during Niednagel's plate appearance to score three runs.
Ethan Dillinger defended from the mound with a trio of strikeouts in the bottom of four.
The bottom of the fifth saw Texas Christian put up five runs, 13-5.
The Birds took one run back in the top of six, 13-6. A pair of walks issued to Anstey and T.J. Oster put two on the bags. On a fly out from Adams, Anstey was able to take third and scored on a Zapp single to the shortstop.
The Horned Frogs sealed the score at 17-6 in the bottom of the sixth frame after plating four.
Air Force will face TCU in one more game on Wednesday March 5th, at 3 p.m. CT/2 p.m. MT.
