
Air Force Trio Opens Action at Bryan Clay Multis

AZUSA Calif. – A trio of Air Force athletes opened competition at the Bryan Clay Multis today (April 10) at Cougar Stadium on the Azusa Pacific campus in California. Sophomore Kayla Beach and freshman Sarah Reynolds had career-best opening days in the heptathlon, while freshman Brayden Richards kicked off his first collegiate decathlon.
Beach is currently eighth in the "C" section with 2873 points – the best Day 1 total of her career. Headlining the opening day was a career-best 14.97 in the 100-meter hurdles – an 846-point performance that is also the No. 20 time in Air Force history. She nearly reach the 800-point mark in the 200-meter dash (career-best 26.01, 796 points), while posting another PR in the high jump (1.61 meters, 5'3¼", 747 points) and adding a 484-point distance of 9.30 meters (30'6¼") in the shot put.
Reynolds amassed a personal-high Day 1 total of 2785 points to sit sixth in the "D" section of the heptathlon after four events. Opening the competition with the 11th-fastest 100-meter hurdles time in Air Force history – an 878-point time of 14.73, she also surpassed the 800-point mark in the final event of the day, as she clocked a wind-aided, 840-point time of 25.52 to finish second in the 200-meter dash. In between the two events on the track, Reynolds tallied 678 points in the high jump (career-best 1.55 meters, 5'1") and 399 points in the shot put (7.99 meters, 26'2¾").
Competing in his first collegiate decathlon, Richards recorded 3919 points – less than 100 off the highest Day 1 total in program history – to sit third in the "A" section of the event named after the 2008 Olympic decathlon champion. He opened the day with a 915-point time of 10.73 in the 100-meter dash, before adding 823 points in the long jump (7.04 meters, 23'1¼"), 700 points in the shot put (13.54 meters, 44'5¼"), 644 points in the high jump (1.82 meters, 5'11½"), and 837 points in the 400-meter dash (49.51).
The trio returns to Cougar Stadium tomorrow (April 11) for the final day of the Bryan Clay Multis. Reynolds and Beach will begin their sections of the heptathlon at 11:00 a.m., and 12:30 p.m., respectively, while Richards' section of the decathlon is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. (all times Pacific).
OKLAHOMA THROWS SERIES INVITATIONAL
Junior Texas Tanner also competed on Thursday, as he opened competition at the Oklahoma Throws Series Invitational. With a throw of 59.42 meters (194-11") – a mark just shy of his own 59.59-meter Air Force Record, Tanner was the top collegiate finisher in her section of the discus throw (sixth overall). He will return to Throws Town tomorrow for the hammer throw at 5:00 p.m. (CT).
