USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- Following another NCAA-leading performance and his third-straight pommel horse title at last week's USAG Collegiate Nationals, Air Force senior Patrick Hoopes was named the College Gymnastics Association's Specialist of the Week on Wednesday, April 2.
The Lehi, Utah, native captured the pommel horse title on March 29, marking the third-straight year that he has finished first on his signature event at the USAG Collegiate Nationals. Hoopes dominated the field during the event finals, scoring a 14.750 to hold a 1.40-point advantage over the rest of the field. The win came one day after he matched his NCAA-leading score of 15.150 to finish first out of 25 gymnasts in qualifying, bettering the field by nearly one point.
The Falcons return to the Academy this weekend, when they host their conference counterparts at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships this Saturday (April 5) at 4:00 p.m. (MT). Ninth-ranked Air Force will host top-ranked Oklahoma, No. 2 Stanford, and No. 10 California at Cadet West Gym.
