Distance Runners Head to California for Weekend Meets

The Air Force distance squad will open their outdoor season with a pair of meets in California this weekend (April 4-5), as 18 Falcons will split their time between the Stanford Invitational and the Mike Fanelli Track Classic. The rest of the team received an unexpected weekend off, as an unfavorable winter weather forecast forced Colorado to cancel the Jerry Quiller Classic.

MEET INFORMATION – STANFORD INVITATIONAL
The Stanford Invitational will take place at Cobb Track and Angell Field on the Stanford campus over the April 4-5 weekend. Tickets can be purchased online at GoStanford.com, while live results will be available via Record Timing (there will be no broadcast of the meet this year)
MEET INFORMATION – MIKE FANELLI TRACK CLASSIC
The Mike Fanelli Track Classic, held at Cox Stadium on the San Francisco State campus, will take place on April 3-5 – although Air Force will only be competing there on Saturday. Admission is free for the meet, while live results will be provided via Red Cap Timing (streaming is TBA).
AIR FORCE IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Backed by a pair of Top 5 rankings from Texas Tanner, three Falcons are listed among the Top 25 in the NCAA standings. With Air Force Record performances, Tanner is ranked third in the hammer (240'11") and fifth in the discus (195'6") – and holds a No. 23 placement in the shot put after his season-opening throw of 60'0¼". Air Force has a pair of top-25 throwers in the hammer, as Cooper Stroka is listed No. 22 after recording a career-best throw of 213'5". On the women's side, Kayla Beach is ranked 13th in the NCAA following her Academy Record total of 4761 points.
SQUAD GOALS
With a combined distance of over 227 meters, the men's hammer quartet of Texas Tanner, Cooper Stroka, Arden Jenkins and Massimo Grisotto are ranked No. 11 in the April 1 edition of the USTFCCCA #EventSquad Rankings – which are determined by the cumulative season-best marks from a team's top four athletes in the national descending order list.
TANNER REPEATS AS MOUNTAIN WEST FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
04-01-25 | Following his record-setting performance in the discus throw at the Texas Relays, Texas Tanner was named the Mountain West Field Athlete of the Week for the second time in as many weeks.
WHAT'S ON DECK
A small contingent of Falcons are in action over the April 10-12 weekend. Air Force will compete at the Bryan Clay Multis in Azusa, Calif., while Texas Tanner will travel to Ramona, Okla., for the Oklahoma Throws Series Invitational.
