COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force men's tennis men's head coach Evan Urbina was named the 2025 Mountain West Men's Tennis Coach of the Year, announced today by the conference office. The award was voted on by the league's coaches.
Urbina is the first-ever Air Force coach to win the MW Men's Tennis Coach of the Year honor. He guided Air Force to an 11-win season, nearly doubling the total of six from the previous season.
The Falcons posted a pair of Mountain West dual wins in 2025, which has been achieved just four times at Air Force in the Mountain West era. One of the MW wins was over #65 New Mexico, which snapped a 25-match losing streak to the Lobos, which dated back to 2005. It was also Air Force's first win over a ranked opponent since 2013.
Urbina's Falcons also had big service academy win over Navy, taking down the Midshipmen 4-0 at College MatchDay, which took place at the USTA Training Center in Orlando, Fla.
In addition to the successful Spring season, the Falcons achieved several highlights during the fall season. Air Force earned two singles titles at the ITA Bedford Cup In the Mountains, which included senior Arjun Kersten winning the main singles draw. Kersten, along with sophomore Alec Fritzinger, were the first-two Falcons ever to win singles titles at the Bedford Cup.
Kersten also had a strong showing at the first-ever Mountain West Fall Qualifier, taking third place in men's singles.
Also in the fall, the doubles duo of juniors Phillip Deaton and AJ Moore made it to the ITA Mountain Regionals semifinals in doubles. The tandem also qualified for the ITA Sectionals.
Air Force had seven total Mountain West Player and Freshmen of the Week awards, the most-ever in one season. Kersten earned three MW Player of the Week honors, setting a program-record for most in a season and career.
The Falcons had three All-Mountain West performers with Kersten earning his third All-MW singles and doubles honors. Deaton earned All-MW singles and junior Jack Brown earned All-MW doubles.
