
Air Force Women's Soccer Places Eight on Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., - Air Force women's soccer lands eight players on the 2024-25 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete team, as released by conference officials on Thursday afternoon. Chase Borntreger, Gianna Gigliotti, Annika Jost, Mai Mateaki, Lauren Mirande, Caeli Sherman, Sophia Taylor, and Maddy Walsh closed out the year with outstanding athletic achievement and academic merit.
To be considered a Mountain West Scholar-Athlete, the student must have completed at least two semesters or three quarters at the certifying, member institution and must have a cumulative grade point average, at the member institution, of 3.50 or higher.
Rising C2C, Chase Borntreger is a Political Science major and made her way onto the Scholar-Athlete team for the first time in her career. The midfielder played 885 minutes for Air Force, while tallying two goals and two assists for six points, 18 shots on goal, and one game winner against California Baptist. Borntreger was also honored on the CSC Academic All-District and Academic All-Mountain West teams.
Gianna Gigliotti earned the Scholar-Athlete distinction for the first time at Air Force. Durin her freshman campaign, the Yorba Linda, Calif., native appeared in a pair of games and totaled 64 minutes on the pitch.
Following her freshman season, Annika Jost landed on the Scholar-Athlete team for the first time. The Electrical and Computer Engineering major appeared in 17 matches during her debut season, with 10 starts. She totaled 1042 minutes on the pitch and played full 90 minutes against San Diego State. The rising sophomore tied for a team-high eight points off three goals and two assist, while being one of three Falcons to record three goals during the 2024 season. Jost was also named to the Academic All-Mountain West team.
Mai Mateaki closed out her freshman season with her first Scholar-Athlete honors. The midfielder took 17 starts and appeared in 18 matches during her debut season to total 1133 minutes on the pitch. Mateaki recorded her first game winner at Hawaii and compiled three goals for six points across the season. The Anchorage, Ala., native was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week (Sept. 2) and Academic All-Mountain West.
After her junior season, Lauren Mirande was named a Scholar-Athlete for the third consecutive year. The midfielder started 16 matches with appearances in all 18 to compiled 1273 minutes on the pitch, the third-most on the team. Mirande scored her first career goal to put the Falcons on the board at UNLV on October 6 and took career-high three shots in the same match. She was also honored as CSC Academic All-District and Academic All-Mountain West Team selections.
Caeli Sherman heads into her C1C year with her second Scholar-Athlete award. The Salt Lake City, Utah, native earned five starts and made appearances in all 18 matches of the 2024 season. She logged 563 minutes on the pitch and recorded two goals for four points. Sherman was also named to the Academic All-Mountain West team for her academic efforts.
Rising sophomore, Sophia Taylor etched her name in the Scholar-Athlete book for the first time. She appeared in seven matches off the bench for the Falcons and played a season-high 22 minutes against Colorado State. The Dayton, Ohio native managed her first career shot on goal at Fresno State.
Last but not least, Maddy Walsh wrapped up her debut season with a Scholar-Athlete honor. She made six appearances and totaled 109 minutes on the pitch.
