ESSEN, Germany -- Two-time NCAA pommel horse champion and recent Air Force graduate Patrick Hoopes captured the bronze medal on his signature event during the finals of the FISU World University Summer Games in Essen, Germany, on Saturday, July 26.
The recently commissioned Air Force second lieutenant scored a 14.466 (6.000 difficulty, 8.466 execution) to place third in the pommel horse finals and secure a FISU medal for Team USA. Joined on the pommel horse podium by Hamlet Manukyan of Armenia and the Game's all-around champion, Daiki Hashimoto of Japan, Hoopes collected his third international medal of the year.
The native of Lehi, Utah, secured his fourth-straight appearance in an international final on Wednesday, July 23, when he recorded a score of 14.566 (6.000 difficulty, 8.566 execution) in qualification. That score, which helped Team USA to place eighth out of 23 countries in the team championships, was the fourth-highest score in a pommel horse field of over 100 gymnasts.
In addition to defending his NCAA title in 2025, Hoopes had an international debut season that included silver medal at the Baku World Cup and bronze medals at the Cairo World Cup and today's World University Games.
