FRIDAY'S GOAL: SING SECOND
Air Force is 12-4 all-time against its service academy counterparts from Annapolis. The Falcons, who are 3-2 against the Midshipmen at USAFA and 1-1 in neutral site matches at the Pentagon, hold an impressive 8-1 all-time mark on Navy's home floor. The Falcons have won every meeting at Wesley Brown Field House (2011, 2013, 2015),while the rest of that series has been split between Macdonough Hall and Alumni Hall.
A QUICK LOOK BACK
Air Force last played at the Kristen Dickmann Invitational in 2011, where they picked up a 25-17, 25-21, 25-17 win over Navy – its first true road win since 2009 – before the tournament was cancelled due to the approach of Hurricane Irene.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Navy enters their home opener with a 2-1 record from the Utah Valley Invitational. After starting the season with a narrow 2-3 loss to one of the Falcons' Mountain West opponents (Boise State), the Mids rebounded with a pair of 3-1 victories over Utah Valley and Montana. Wake Forest, who will play George Mason before facing off against the Falcons, head to Annapolis with a 0-2 mark after falling by 1-3 margins to Cincinnati and Michigan at the Bearcats' tournament, while George Mason, who will play Wake Forest and Navy before meeting Air Force, went 2-1 against American (2-3), Howard (3-1) and Georgetown (3-1) last weekend at the DC Challenge.
A QUICK HISTORY LESSON
While the Falcons are 12-4 all-time against Navy in a 16-match series that dates back to 1981, Air Force has a much more compact history with its other two opponents at the Kristen Dickmann Invitational, holding 1-0 records against both George Mason and Wake Forest. The Falcons swept the Patriots during the Omni Invitational at the Academy in 2015, before taking down the Demon Deacons on their home floor in 2018 – a victory that marked the Air Force's first-ever win over a team from the ACC.
WHAT'S ON DECK
The Falcons remain on the road next week, when they travel to Edwardsville, Ill., for the Cougar Classic. Air Force will open the weekend with a rematch against Seattle on Sept. 11, before facing SIUE and Austin Peay on Sept. 12-13, respectively.
