A mix of new and old faces alike are set to represent Air Force Women's Tennis this week, as senior Arianna Van Houweling and junior Nadia Kojonroj, along with freshman pair Yule Kang and Jariahlyn Rhoades get set to take on the MW Fall Qualifier, Oct. 2-5 at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas.
In Vegas, 16 doubles teams and 32 individual competitors across the Mountain West Conference will be vying for an automatic doubles/singles berth into the 2025 ITA Conference Masters Championships, to be held Nov. 6-9 in San Diego. From there, the top three doubles pairs and top four singles finishers at Conference Masters will further qualify for the NCAA Division I Individual Championships, Nov. 18-23, at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
Team captain Van Houweling currently sits at 7-1 in singles and doubles play this fall. After dropping her first singles match at the Falcons' own Bedford Cup (Sept. 18-20), Van Houweling claimed four consecutive wins to score a third place finish in the top singles draw. Van Houweling has paired with three Falcons in open doubles to date, having dropped a single contest in the Bedford Cup doubles semifinal round. The senior opened the fall 4-0 at Colorado State's Jon Messick Invitational (Sept. 11-13), earning a pair of set wins with freshmen Kang and Alba Martinez.
Kojonroj, who made her season debut at the Bedford Cup, sits at 3-1 in doubles play with Van Houweling and is in search of her first singles wins this fall. The pair is tabbed as the two seed in doubles play at this weekend's tournament in Las Vegas.
Kang and Rhoades both stormed onto the scene in a big way in the first two weekends of their collegiate careers, both battling their way into the title match of their respective singles brackets at the Bedford Cup. Kang currently sits at 6-1 in open singles after opening with six-straight wins and five-consecutive straight-set shutouts; Rhoades, at 4-3, won three-straight at the Bedford Cup before falling in the Delta draw championship. As a duo, the pair is currently 2-1.
