SEMPER SUPRA, ALWAYS ABOVE
The Falcons will wear their Space Force uniform against UNLV on Oct. 4, as the United States Space Force has partnered with Air Force Athletics to provide uniforms for each team. USAFA is the premier undergraduate commissioning source for the Space Force, as about 10-percent of each class commission as Guardians each year.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
San Diego State was one of four teams to go undefeated during the opening weekend of Mountain West play, as road wins over Fresno State (3-0) and San Jose State (3-2) improved its overall record to 5-7. The Aztecs are led by this week's MW Offensive Player of the Week, who leads the team in hitting (.389) and kills (4.25) – the latter stat being the third-best average in the Mountain West after two matches. UNLV, who will play at Nevada on Thursday as part of a four-match road swing to open the conference season, enters the week ranked 7-5 overall and 1-1 in Mountain West play (2-3 loss to San Jose State, 3-0 win over Fresno State). As a team, the Rebels averaged 2.22 aces per set last week (20 total) to lead the conference in serving, while Alondra Alarcon holds the league's individual lead with seven aces and a 0.78 per-set average. A complete stat comparison can be found on Page 3.
HISTORY 101
San Diego State holds a 42-11 lifetime advantage over the Falcons, although Air Force has won six of its last 11 overall meetings – and seven of the last nine contests within the confines of Cadet East Gym. UNLV has a 49-6 all-time record against Air Force, with five of the Falcons' six wins coming at the Academy (1995, 1999, 2015, 2018, 2024).
AROUND THE CONFERENCE
After the first weekend of conference play, Air Force is ranked among the league's top five in digs (third, 15.00), kills (fourth, 13.67) and assists (fifth, 12.17), while Mia Loyd and Jordan Suan are ranked third in the Mountain West in assists (9.50) and digs (4.00), respectively. A complete list of Air Force rankings in the Mountain West can be found on Page 4.
THE HELPING HAND
During a 39-assist outing in Air Force's win over Nevada on Sept. 25, Mia Loyd recorded the 1000th helper of her young career – becoming the seventh Falcon in the modern (25-point scoring) era to reach that milestone, joining Hillary Keltner (4061, 2011-14), Shanleigh Conlan (2400, 2015-18), Caroline Reinkensmeyer (2399, 2020-23), Andi Ahlers (2040, 2017-20), Jessican Hellmann (1911, 2008-10), and Sarah Hellman (1767, 2015-18).
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE
In addition to reaching the 1000-assist plateau in the Falcons' win over Nevada, Mia Loyd also secured the 10th double-double of her career. With a 39-assists, 14-dig performance, Loyd became the 16th Academy athlete at the Division I level to reach the double-digit double-double total.
SEPTEMBER RECORD
Air Force finished September with a 6-5 record – marking the 11th time joining Division I that it has finished the first full month of the season at 500 or better. The Falcons' six wins are tied for the fifth-most during that time span.
WHAT'S ON DECK
Air Force heads to Northern California next week for a pair of conference contests. The Falcons will face Fresno State at the Save Mart Center on Thursday, Oct. 9, before taking on San Jose State inside Spartan Gym on Saturday, Oct. 11.
