
Falcons Sweep Wake Forest for Historic Win

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Air Force Volleyball swept Wake Forest this afternoon (Sept. 6) at the Kristen Dickmann Invitational in Annapolis – marking the first time in the rally scoring era that the Falcons have swept a team from a Power 4 conference. Air Force quickly took care of the Demon Deacons inside Wesly Brown Field House and improved to 2-0 all-time against Wake Forest with the 25-18, 25-21, 25-20 win.
Senior Ashley Bible accounted for a match-high 17 kills – finishing just shy of the entirety of the Demon Deacons' team (24). Sophomore Alysa Walker added eight kills and a team-high 10 digs, while being one of three Falcons to tally two service aces in the match (sophomore Kiera King, senior Jordan Suan). Sophomore Mia Loyd had 31 assists and classmate Grace Fiaseu rounded out the Falcons' state leaders with five blocks (one solo, four assisted).
Bible put down the opening point of the match, but the Demon Deacons rattled off five straight points to send Air Force into an early timeout (1-5). Backed by service aces from Suan and King, the Falcons roared back to even the set at six. Wake Forest retook the lead (8-5) and the teams traded scores, while Air Force earning points off of blocks from Fiaseu (solo, 8-9), Walker and Hatchett (assisted, 11-11). A kill from Johnson gave Air Force the lead on the next point. The Falcons took a 15-14 lead off back-to-back scores from Fiaseu (kill, block with Loyd, while an ace from Walker and multiple kills from Bible (five) and Fiaseu (two) headlined a set-closing 10-2 run – with Bible accounting for the final three kills to secure a 25-18 victory for the Falcons.
Wake Forest took an early 3-0 lead, but the Falcons stormed back once again – scoring seven of the next eight points to tale an early 7-4 lead. The Falcons received their points during that run off kills from Bible, Hatchett, Walker, and Fiaseu, as well as another Suan ace and a Johnson/Hatchett block. The Demon Deacons, who evened the set at eight and retook the lead on the next play, ultimately pushing their advantage out to five by the 17-12 mark, despite additional kills from Bible. The Falcons responded once more, as back-to-back kills from senior Savanh Johnson, and a kill and block from Walker (assisted with Fiasue) gave Air Force a 19-18 lead. Johnson added one more kill, while a 5-1 run that included kills from Bible (two), Fiaseu and Walker gave Air Force the 25-21 comeback win.
The Demon Deacons tallied the first two points of the third set, but a kill and ace from Bible, as well as a Hatchett/Walker block, quickly gave Air Force the lead (3-2). Following a tie at four-all, the Falcons rattled off five straight points, highlighted by another kill/block combination from Walker (assisted with Fiaseu) and an ace from King. Wake Forest responded to a coach-called timeout by scoring eight of the next 11 points to tie the set at 12. A kill from Bible returned the lead to Air Force at 13-12, while two errant attacks by the Demon Deacons pushed the Falcons' lead to 15-12. Wake Forest evened the set at 17, but Loyd and Bible put down back-to-back kills to snap the deadlock and push the Falcons' lead to two. The teams traded the next several points, before Bible put down three kills during a 4-0 run to close the match with a 25-21 victory.
The Falcons wrap up the Kristen Dickmann Invitational tomorrow (Sept. 7), when they take on George Mason at noon (ET) inside the Wesley Brown Field House. For fans in Annapolis, shuttle parking will be available at the Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
