LAS VEGAS – Air Force Women's Basketball, taking on UNLV in a rematch of the Falcons' season opener, fell at the hands of the Lady Rebels, 78-47, on Wednesday evening in Las Vegas.
Senior Emily Adams led Falcon scoring with a team high 12 points (6-16 FG, 9 REB, 3 AST), tying her career high. Adams' double-digit outing marks her second in as many games and third this season.
Air Force and UNLV went toe-to-toe in the opening minutes with the Falcons maintaining a slight edge on the scoreboard behind a quick five points for McNabb. UNLV's Shelbee Brown claimed the lead for the Lady Rebels just ahead of the first media timeout and kicked off an 11-2 UNLV run. Air Force closed the first quarter on a 1-11 skid at the Lady Rebel basket, allowing an 18-9 UNLV start.
The Lady Rebels' lead inflated to 20 at half. Air Force's shooting total improved in the second quarter (.357), but wasn't enough to stall UNLV's advance. Eight points for Lady Rebel Shelbee Brown and 16 total for the half left Air Force with a 41-21 deficit to handle at the second-quarter buzzer.
The Falcons ratcheted up their defense in the third quarter, forcing UNLV into a trio of turnovers and grinding the Lady Rebel offense to a crawl. Air Force, behind a six-point, team-leading effort from Adams in the third quarter, pulled back within 15 points. A UNLV 9-0 response rebuilt the Lady Rebels' advantage. From there, Air Force was outscored 17-8 in the fourth quarter, ending in a 78-47 result.
