U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY. Colo. – Air Force Women's Basketball, hosting Boise State on Wednesday evening, put up more shot attempts than the opposing Broncos but struggled to find the basket, as the Falcons fell, 70-59, inside of Clune Arena.
Senior Milahnie Perry led Air Force scoring with 17 points (5-12 FG); Junior Keelie O'Hollaren contributed 12 points on a 4-7 outing from three-point range; Senior Alexis Cortez and freshman Bhret Clay both added eight points apiece.
After Boise State got off to a 10-2 start, the Falcons turned Boise State over five times in as many minutes to close out the first quarter and climb back into a two-point game at 17-15. Perry's eight first-quarter points led Falcon scoring after 10 minutes.
Air Force trailed 31-23 at the close of the first half. The turnovers continued to mount for the Broncos, as Air Force forced 11 total takeaways in the second quarter, building the first half total to 16. Air Force and Boise State exchanged the lead four times in the second quarter and were tied at 21-all at the under-five media timeout. Despite the second quarter defensive showing from Air Force, the Falcons struggled to capitalize, shooting just 2-14 in the second quarter while allowing a 10-0 Bronco run to end the first half.
Air Force and Boise State traded blows in the early minutes of the third quarter, but the Broncos worked their way into an 18-point lead, their largest of the game. Clay stacked back-to-back triples and O'Hollaren added her second of the evening to stall Boise State's advance. Despite a 3-5 showing from three-point range in the third quarter, Air Force found itself down 55-39 with 10 minutes to go.
O'Hollaren willed Air Force back into a 10-point game on her third and fourth threes of the night to open the fourth quarter, but Boise State never allowed its advantage fall back into single digits. Air Force outscored the opposition 10-4 in the final four minutes of the contest but were unable to complete the comeback.
