MATCH 10
Air Force (2-3-4, 1-0-1 MW) vs. UNLV (5-3-2, 1-1 MW)
1pm MT, Sunday, October 4
MW Conference
Cadet Soccer Stadium – USAF Academy, Colo.
The Falcons return home to host UNLV in a Sunday afternoon MW match, October 4, at Cadet Soccer Stadium. Action is scheduled for 1pm. Air Force aims to redeem last season's two-nil loss in Las Vegas.
The series with UNLV is one of the longest running series in AF's history, spanning 47 matches from 1980 up to this season. The Falcons lead the all-time series 24-19-4; however, the Rebels have won the last three meetings. The Falcons' last win against UNLV was in 2022 in Las Vegas, 2-1.
A LOOK AT THE REBELS
UNLV will take the pitch under the command of head coach BJ Craig in his fifth season at the helm. The Rebels have a pair of common opponents with AF in UC Riverside and UC San Diego. UNLV bested UCSD, 1-0, and played UCR to a draw at one. The Falcons lost by one goal in those matches.
UNLV's Maxin Scordo is the player to watch, boasting five goals and a pair of assists this season. Scordo is fifth in the nation with three game-winning goals and second in the conference with 0.70 goals per game. He holds an impressive .706 SOG%. Teammate Nick Legendre accounted for four goals and an assist. The duo combines for nine of the Rebels' 12 goals this season.
In goal, Hugo Lemos played every minute of the 2026 campaign. He allows less than a goal per game (0.90) with two shutouts and an .809 save percentage.
PICKING UP SPEED
The Falcons have two wins and no losses in the last three matches and have outscored opponents, 6-2, in those three meetings. In two of the last three matches, the Falcons led wire-to-wire, scoring first while holding opposition to less shots in the second half.
MW STANDINGS
After the second week of MW play, Air Force sits at second in the conference with four points while Grand Canyon remains undefeated with six points. UNLV, just behind Air Force in third, is 1-1. San Jose State, Utah Tech, and UC Davis all remain winless with 0-1-1 marks in the MW. GCU has lost the last five meetings against AF and hasn't beaten the Falcons since 2020.
STACKING UP
AF freshman goalie Hunter Anderson leads the MW in saves per game (4.22), a mark that ranks him 34th in NCAA Div. I soccer. He has the second best save percentage (.792) just behind Lemos. His GAA (1.11) is enough for second best in the conference, also behind Lemos. His 35 saves this season is 26th most in the NCAA and second-most in the MW.
Air Force has the best shutout percentage in the MW and is second in the MW in shots per game (12.7), shots on goal per game (5.00), save percentage (.796), and team GAA (1.11).
UP NEXT
Air Force opens a two-game road stint at San Jose on Saturday, October 10. Action at Spartan Soccer Complex is scheduled for a 7pm PT start. The Falcons aim to make good on last season's two-nil loss to the Spartans in the 2025 conference finale.
LAST TIME OUT
Air Force earned its first clean sheet and three-point match of the season, besting UC Davis two-nil in the midweek matchup at Aggie Soccer Field. The Falcons are playing their best soccer as they dig deeper into the MW schedule—they defended well back-to-front and found their offensive rhythm before the opposition.
Air Force struck in the 42nd minute as Sean Odle chipped an excellent ball to Ben Brophy who redirected a lofty header over Talin Morgan in full leap. The goal and assist marked career firsts for Brophy and Odle, respectively.
In the 62nd minute, the Falcons' C4C Hector Orozco drew the penalty, yielding AF's first PK of the season. Orozco was sent forth and slotted it home through the low left corner. The goal marked Orozco's second of the campaign and the Falcons' first two-nil advantage this season.
Freshman standout keeper Hunter Anderson was stellar in goal, earning his second win, second shutout, and first shut out win of the season. He finished the night with three saves to maintain his position as one of the top keepers in the MW.
