COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After recording the second-best pole vault clearance in the conference this season, first-year Air Force vaulter Max McFarlane was named the Mountain West Men's Freshman of the Week this afternoon (Feb. 17). It is the first conference award for the Denair, Calif., native.
McFarlane recorded a career-best clearance of 5.34 meters (17'6¼") during the "A" section of the pole vault at the Jarvis Scott Invitational on Feb. 14. Matching the second-best height of the day, McFarlane finished sixth in the meet and moved up to No. 12 in the Air Force Record Book. With that clearance, a personal improvement of 0.19 meters, McFarlane is currently the fifth-ranked Freshman in the NCAA and listed among the overall top 40 of the national standings.
The Falcons return to action next week (Feb. 26-28), when they travel to the Reno-Sparks Convention Center for the 2026 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships.
