FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Air Force Women's Basketball led early and hung close with Colorado State through the Falcons' first half at Moby Arena, but CSU pulled away in the second, ending in a 66-52 Falcon loss on Saturday afternoon in Fort Collins.
Milahnie Perry led all scorers for the game, ending with 17 points – A tally good to elevate the senior into second all time in Air Force career scoring. Junior Alexis Cortez ended the day with 10 points and eight scored in the first quarter.
Back-to-back three pointers and eight first-quarter points from Cortez got Air Force off the ground to start the game and had the Falcons ahead early. A 7-2 Falcon run – capped by a left-wing triple from freshman Eva Love – Lifted the Falcons to a 15-8 advantage. At 17-12 after a pair of trips to the free throw line for CSU, Perry, driving the basket on the final possession of the quarter, battled to the CSU rim to lift Air Force to a 17-12 lead at the buzzer.
A Keelie O'Hollaren bounce-in three-pointer extended Air Force's lead to eight points at the start of the second quarter but was the only basket the Falcons could muster until the junior sunk her second at 5:03. The Falcon defense kept Air Force in front until CSU broke off a 10-2 run in the final minutes of the half to pull back within a single-possession game. Air Force and CSU exchanged the lead four times in the final three minutes of the opening half, ending in a 31-29 Ram halftime lead.
The Falcons were outscored 17-10 in the third quarter, building CSU's lead to 48-39 with 10 minutes to go. Perry clinched second all-time on her first bucket of the second half, scoring on a tough and-one drawn driving on CSU's Lexus Bargesser. On the opposite end, Bargesser scored a quick six points to open the half, leaving the Falcons down 39-31. A pair of technical fouls levied on both Bargesser and CSU head coach Ryun Williams bought multiple free opportunities for the Falcons to cut into their deficit and was good to pull Air Force back within single digits at the close of the third quarter.
The Falcons pulled back within seven points in the opening stages of the fourth quarter, but CSU quickly rebuilt a double-digit advantage and held the Falcons at length the remainder of the game.
Air Force (13-16, 7-12 MW) led Colorado State in successful three-pointers (five), points off of turnovers (16), offensive rebounds (10), second-chance points (eight), fast break points (eight), blocks (six) and steals (seven).
