Falcons Defeat Oral Roberts on Wednesday Evening, 4-3

ENID, Okla., - Air Force (10-12, 5-1) defeated Oral Roberts (14-11, 6-0), 4-3 on Wednesday evening at David Allen Memorial Ballpark. The Birds tallied eight hits while the pitchers combined for ten strikeouts.

At the plate, Landon Boyd went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while Kayden Bradshaw, Luke Elmore, and Van Klein also accounted for RBIs.

Bowen Brantingham took the start on the mound and went 2.2 innings with one unearned run allowed and a trio of strikeouts. The first reliever, Aiden Poe (3-0) tossed four full innings and allowed a pair of runs, while striking out two Golden Eagles to earn his third win of the season. Easton Miller threw three strikeouts in his 1.1 innings on the bump before a one-out appearance from Sam Hentges. The final two outs came from Trey Rutledge.

The Falcons managed to strike first, 2-0, in the top of one. With one away, Ben Niednagel singled and was followed by a hit Wyatt Hanoian. Both base runners scored with back-to-back hits from Elmore and Boyd.

In the bottom of the third, ORU cut the lead to 2-1 with one run off one hit.

Extending into a 4-1 lead, Air Force plated a pair in the top of the fourth inning. Following a pitching change for the Golden Eagles, Boyd and Brooks Burdine drew walks. Klein recorded his third RBI of the season with a single that allowed Boyd to beat a throw home and around the tag. The next batter, Bradshaw, logged an RBI double for the second run of the frame.

The Golden Eagles added one run to their score in the sixth and the seventh for a one-run ballgame at 4-3.

In the bottom of the ninth, Oral Roberts threatened with runners on the corners but a smart fielder's choice decision from Elmore at first and a Rutledge strikeout shut them down.

The Falcons will continue their road trip and head to Stephenville, Tx., for a three-game series at Tarleton State from March 27-29.
