Texas Tanner Unleashes NCAA All-Time No. 2 Discus Throw
4/12/2026 4:27:00 PM | Track and Field
RAMONA, Okla. – Headlined by the No. 2 discus mark in NCAA history, Air Force senior Texas Tanner had a record-setting long weekend at the Oklahoma Throws Series World Invitational in Ramona, Okla., on April 9-12 – crushing his own record in the discus and setting a season-best distance in the hammer.
Tanner kicked off the weekend at Throw Town Ramona by unleashing a 69.56-meter (228'2") throw in the discus and becoming the No. 2 thrower in NCAA DI history. Tanner, who now only trails the world record holder in terms of collegiate throwers, improved his previous best by more than six meters to earn the top finish in his section. The only collegiate in his group and competing on a night that saw the American record fall in another flight, Tanner added more than five meters to a Mountain West Record that had stood since 2000, while easily resetting his own Air Force and Service Academy records.
The senior returned to the Ramona complex on April 10, winning the hammer throw with a season-best distance of 74.83 meters (245'6"). With a mark second only to his own Air Force Record on the program's all-time standings, Tanner reset the Senior Class Record he set at UCLA earlier this spring.
Tanner closed out his weekend in Oklahoma with a two-day discus competition (April 11-12), where he finished second in his section behind a throw of 64.78 meters (212'6"). With that mark, Tanner was the top collegiate thrower among the four sections and his 64.78-meter distance only trails his throw from Thursday in the NCAA this season.
