LONG BEACH, Calif. – Highlighted by five Air Force Top 25 marks, members of the track and field team wrapped up action at the Beach Invitational this afternoon (April 18) in Long Beach. Sophomore Sarah Reynolds and the freshmen duo of Eleanor Borchard and Zachary DeWalt led the lineup, impacting the program's all-time standings in individual events, as well as running on top-10 relays.
Reynolds opened the day with a 14.43 finish in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing within the top half of the 58-sprinter field and moving up to No. 4 on the program's all-time standings. Borchard also improved her all-time mark in the hurdles, clocking a personal-best 14.90 to move up to No. 19 in the Air Force Record Book. The pair teamed up later in the day, as they joined junior Allison Fernstrom and sophomore Ella Pears for the fifth-fastest 4x400-meter relay in Academy history (3:43.89).
DeWalt, who lowered his 400-meter time to 47.46 to place ninth in a 34-man field and move up to No. 20 on the program's all-time standings, joined senior Jettason Rose, sophomore Asher Jenkins and freshman Colton Manock to clock the seventh-fastest 4x100-meter time in Air Force history during a runner-up finish.
Senior Texas Tanner picked up his third event title of the weekend, as he recorded a throw of 64.92 meters (213'0") to win the 64-thrower discus event and lead the Falcons to three top-15 finishes. With that throw, Tanner bettered the collegiate field by nearly six meters and posted a distance that is second in the NCAA only to his town mark from Thursday. Sophomore Evan Keefe posted an eighth-place distance of 55.28 meters (181'4") to join Tanner in the top 10, while senior Massimo Grisotto added a 14th-place throw of 52.11 meters (170'1").
Junior Jonah Hochstetler picked up a first-place finish in the 800-meter run (1:50.78), while Rose and Jenkins returned to the track to finish second (20.60) and third (20.61), respectively, in a 200-meter event that included more than 30 sprinters. Freshman Josh Shriver and sophomore Morgan Glaser added third-place finishes in their respective events, as Shriver ran a 3:57.18 in the 1500-meter run and Glaser cleared 1.79 meters (5'10¾") in the high jump.
Glaser was one of two Falcons to finish within the top 10 of the high jump, as freshman Zoe Heizer cleared 1.66 meters (5'5¼") to finish 10th. The Falcons also received top-10 marks from junior Ryan Hajek, who finished seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (52.31) and classmate Kayla Beach, who recorded a leap of 5.71 meters (18'8¾") to finish 10th in the long jump.
Air Force collected three additional top-15 finishes at Jack Rose Track on Saturday. Sophomore Alese Banks joined Beach within the top half of the long jump field, as she recorded a distance of 5.68 meters (18'7¾") to finish 13th in the 37-jumper event, while junior Tanner Woodring and freshman Julie Segroves accounted for 15th-place finishes in their respective pole vault events. Woodring recorded a career-best clearance of 4.95 meters (16'2¾") in the men's invitational and Segroves posted a height of 4.95 meters (16'2¾") in the women's event.
The Falcons wrap up their SoCal road swing later tonight, as the 1500-meter runners close out the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, and the full squad will be back in action next week (April 22-25) at the annual Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
