The Falcons open Cadet Soccer Stadium for the first time of the 2026 campaign, hosting UC San Diego on Sunday, August 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm MT at USAFA. The matchup will mark the third meeting between the teams with the Tritons leading the series, 2-0. Last time they met was in San Diego in 2024, UCSD bested AF, 3-0. The Falcons have yet to score a goal against the Tritons.
BREAKING EVEN IN WEEK ONE
Air Force played to a pair of draws in the opening week of the 2026 men's soccer season, Army, 1-1, in West Point and shutting out Marist in a tie at nil in Poughkeepsie. Tucker Kern scored the Falcons' goal of a free kick while Hunter Anderson made 16 saves across both matches.
HUNTER ANDERSON SHINES IN COLLEGIATE DEBUT
Freshman keeper Hunter Anderson won a slew of awards in his collegiate debut. Anderson had to deal with a ton of attacking volume this past week and made 16 saves across both of Air Force's contests, keeping one clean sheet and only allowing one goal. The freshman played an important role in helping the program get out of opening week unbeaten with two draws. He made 10 saves in his first collegiate shutout at Marist. Anderson was tabbed Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week, MW Freshman of the Week, AF Cadet Athlete of the Week, and CollegeSoccerNews.com goalkeeper of the week.
A LOOK AT THE TRITONS
The Falcons will be tested by the undefeated Tritons coming off a pair of shutouts in the early season. UCSD throttled Navy, 7-0, in the season opener and blanked Houston Christian, 1-0, on August 27. The seven goals in the season opener versus Navy are the most by Triton men's soccer since Oct. 10, 1997, spanning the entirety of the team's Division I and Division II eras. The 7-0 scoreline marked the worst defeat in Navy's 106-year men's soccer history.
Now in his 19th season at the helm of UC San Diego men's soccer, Jon Pascale has a record of 153-109-57 (.569) with the Tritons at the start of 2026. Pascale is a three-time California Collegiate Athletic Association Coach of the Year and led the Tritons to four Division II NCAA Championship berths from 2013 to 2019. His record in Division II was 130-61-40 (.649).
UC San Diego's three captains are all seniors and returning starters. Nic Thiele is the Tritons' goalkeeper, and he is joined by defenders Keenai Braun and Nate Morgan.
